Clutching my Pearls
The world was all water
Until sun came and dried up the earth
And men
Were born from the fire
Left women beached
On the sand
At the feet of man
He told her she didn’t
Need to swim
So she grew legs
And long hair
And walked with him
For he kept her warm
Kept her dry
She forgot of her sisters
Sitting at the bottom
Of the sea
She grew old and he grew
Hotter and hotter
He spread fires
Through the trees
That grew food
He turned the towns red
Burnt every child they had
The woman had no choice but to return to the sea
Wait for him to
Grow fins
