The Siren's Lament

The Siren’s Lament is a deep dive into the world of the female spirit. One free from the perceptions of heteronormative men. In this project I explore how a history of the male gaze has created villains out of queer female sexuality. Drawing from old sailor stories, The Siren’s Lament is a response, poking fun at the men who created a promiscuous monster to blame for their sins. Men who fabricated us out of branches and fish to be dragged to shore, bodies without feet. The project deals with the artist's inner conflict to dual attraction, appeasing man and woman, land and sea.

You sailors only listen for my song to know where to cast your nets. With a wink, I’ll choose to return to the water and live with the women you drowned at sea.
